Description
0.7X Stereo Microscope Auxiliary Objective Lens (Barlow Lens)
A screw-on auxiliary (Barlow) lens designed to extend the working distance and widen the field of view on a stereo microscope, while reducing the overall magnification to 0.7x of the microscope’s native power. Commonly used by mobile repair technicians who need extra clearance under the scope for soldering, motherboard rework, or handling boards under the objective without the working distance feeling cramped.
Key details:
- Magnification factor: 0.7X (multiplies the microscope’s base/zoom magnification by 0.7)
- Working distance: Typically ~120mm (varies slightly by model/brand)
- Mounting thread: Standard M48 x 0.75mm (fits most trinocular/binocular stereo zoom microscopes with a 48mm objective thread — some models use 42mm or 55mm/50mm threads, so thread size should be matched to the scope)
- Construction: Achromatic glass lens element in a metal/aluminum alloy housing
- Function: Screws directly onto the bottom of the microscope’s main objective — no tools needed
Effect on the microscope:
- Lowers overall magnification (useful when you need a wider view of a board rather than tight zoom)
- Increases working distance, giving more room between the lens and the workpiece — helpful for soldering irons, hot air nozzles, and probes to move freely underneath
- Some versions include a card slot/notch on the underside to mount a ring light
